The Historic Wakefield Barn: A Wedding Venue That Tells a Story

After photographing weddings at many venues throughout the Triangle, I can honestly say this place is special. It&rsquo;s not just a stunning backdrop for wedding photos &mdash; it&rsquo;s a venue with a history that makes every celebration feel even more meaningful.
&nbsp;
Originally part of John Sprunt Hill&rsquo;s Wakefield Farm, the barn was built in 1934 and was once part of a working dairy farm known for its Guernsey cattle. Today, the property has been thoughtfully transformed into one of the area&rsquo;s premier wedding venues while preserving the character and charm that make it unique.
&nbsp;
That history is what makes photographing here so rewarding. The original details, warm wooden textures, and incredible Great Hall create an atmosphere that feels both timeless and elegant. You&rsquo;re not simply taking photos in a beautiful space &mdash; you&rsquo;re capturing memories in a place that has been part of the community for generations.
&nbsp;
The property itself is a photographer&rsquo;s dream. From romantic outdoor portraits to stunning indoor moments, there are countless opportunities to create images that feel authentic and personal. The beach is such a beautiful place to have a wedding. Julie and Carson not only had a beach wedding but theire reception was at an Aquarium.
&nbsp;
The beach, with its vast stretches of sand and serene atmosphere, was a perfect backdrop for family, bridal party, and the couples photos. The photos I captured there are some of my favorite ones. I also had the opportunity to video their wedding. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the gorgeous highlights from the wedding.

After the beach ceremony, we headed to the aquarium for the reception. I've photographed in many venues, but this was my first time capturing a reception amidst the ethereal glow of an underwater world. The aquarium's moody atmosphere was a stark yet beautiful contrast to the beach's bright tranquility, offering a completely different and equally captivating ambiance.
&nbsp;
As the couple and their guests dined, the aquarium's inhabitants swam gracefully around them. The vibrant colors, the gentle ebb and flow, it was an experience that was refreshingly different and exciting. The photos from the reception are unique, capturing the essence of the atmosphere, the joy of the couple, and the awe of the guests as they partied under the sea.

The pond, by the way, boasts a breathtaking sunset. Trust me, when you see the golden hues reflecting off the water, you'll understand why it's one of my favorite spots to shoot. The property is large and expansive, with lush green pastures that make for a spectacular backdrop for your wedding photos. Plus, there's an amazing large oak tree that adds a touch of timeless beauty to the place. You can't imagine how many great spots there are to take photos. The Barn itself is beautiful and far from your average barn. It's painted a crisp white and features two balconies that lead from the bridal suite and groom suite. This unique layout gives me the opportunity to capture stunning shots of the bride and groom and their bridal party before they've even seen each other on the wedding day. And let's not forget about the staff. They're friendly and helpful, always ready to assist to ensure your big day goes off without a hitch. Please also ensure that there are no references to “our team” or “our photographer”. Instead, all writing should be coming directly from me. I would also like it to be quite down to earth and without lots of fluff and flowery language.
